Poster Worthy People - The Great One

Created On: 4/18/2024

Roberto Clemente was born in Puerto Rico in 1934.

And he was good at baseball.

He was so good that the Dodgers gave him a a ton of money to play professionally.

But he would never play for the Dodgers.

The Pittsburgh Pirates, true to their name, figured out a way to steal him.

And once the Pirates had him, they would never let him go.

He played 18 seasons in Pittsburgh.

He had a Hall of Fame career.

While he wasn't playing, he spent all his time doing charity work, and traveling to where help was needed most.

Then a massive earthquake hit Nicaragua in 1972.

Buildings were crumbling.

Ten thousand people would die.

And hundreds of thousands would lose their homes.

Roberto Clemente decided to help.

He chartered three planes, loaded them with emergency supplies, and sent them to Nicaragua.

But the supplies never made it.

Corrupt officials stole the cargo as soon as the planes landed.

But Roberto Clemente did not give up.

He arranged a fourth flight, loaded it with supplies himself, and he got in the airplane.

But the fourth plane never arrived.

It crashed in the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of Puerto Rico.

Roberto Clemente did not survive.

But to this day, he is remembered as the "The Great One" for how he performed both on the field and off.

And a Hall of Fame player who gave his life in service of others is definitely a poster worthy person.

Holiday Shipping

Holiday Shipping Times & Cut Off We are currently able to ship all print types in time for the holidays, but the sooner you order, the better. Shipping companies are advising to ship packages for holiday delivery by December 16th. Many packages shipped after the 16th will still arrive in time for the holidays, but they are not guaranteeing it. While we do not have full control over the shipping and transit times, here is our best guess at the realistic cutoff dates.
